So where to start for 2013? I’m not a big fan of resolutions, but I do find it helpful to set goals. Yes, resolutions are goals, but there’s something about doing it on the first day of the year that doesn’t sit right with me. Maybe it’s because everybody else is doing it too and they’re usually the same thing. So with that in mind, I’d like to set a few knitting goals for 2013 and we’ll check in monthly to see where things are at – just to keep me honest! Okay, here we go …
Make something in Emerald! If you haven’t heard yet, the Pantone color of the year is Emerald! This is what Pantone has to say about it … “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” They couldn’t be more right. I love bright, vivid color so this will be right up my alley! I wonder what the Barrington Braid will look like in emerald? It’s also one of the colors of the Jamaican Flag! For those of you who are a little geeky like me, here are the values for emerald in the various color systems …

Knit 500m of yarn every week! It’s difficult to say that I’ll knit a certain amount of yarn every day, because the truth is there are some days when I don’t get to knit a stitch! Over a week however, I definitely get the knitting in and should be able to accomplish this goal. I would say more, but there are times when the knitting doesn’t go quite as quickly as expected. Oh, this is 500m of hand knitting, By the way.
Do a KAL on Two-at-a-time Socks! Ever since the first sock KAL/Tutorial, I have received many requests for more on socks. There was a recent one on Toe-up socks and now it’s time to take it one step further – two-at-a-time! I won’t start this before March to give you a chance to try the others if you haven’t tackled socks before!
Crochet More! Yes, I know how to crochet, but don’t do it as often as I should. I say should because the techniques that are out there now are amazing, and I’m not very knowledgeable on them. So I’ll crochet more and learn some new techniques so i can follow along when my crochet friends are discussing a pattern. I’m hoping it will also give me some design inspiration for some fusions projects between knitting and crocheting.
Learn New Techniques! There’s so much to learn in the world of knitting that you could go to school for the next 50 years and not learn half of it! With that said, there’s a lot out there that I’d like to learn to do or do better. This is the year for it!
Make 5 items for me! Yes, this is my selfish goal. I’m sure you’re aware of the story of the shoemaker’s son. Well, I find myself in the same predicament. It was recently brought to mind the other day when a friend asked how many sweaters I own. The answer was surprisingly low, and only 2 that I had knit myself. I love sweaters! I want to one day own an armoire packed with sweaters! This will be a good way to get started!
Okay, I think that will do for now. Keep checking back to see how it goes!
Hugzzz 😎
