Episode 10

Happy New Year and decade! Welcome to Episode 10 of the show.

Episode 10 is here!

So getting right down to the knitty – gritty …
In this episode we announce 3 winners of giveaways we had from last decade. Okay, just from 2 episodes ago. And there’s another giveaway announced in it from Mothy and the Squid. You’ll have to watch the episode to get the details on that though, and make sure you subscribe to the channel and are following both Mothy and myself on Instagram.

Visit of the Angel, from the right wing of the Buxtehude Altar, 1400-10 (tempera on panel) by Master Bertram of Minden (c.1345-c.1415); Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany; German, out of copyright

In KnitU we learn how to use double pointed needles AND how to knit straight from a skein of yarn, without winding it. If you already know how you may think this is a topic that’s too easy to be covered on the show, but the simple truth is that most of us learned to knit with 2 needles, not four or five. So we go back to the start and discuss a bit about the history of the DPN’s. Did you know that there are paintings from the 14th century depicting Mary knitting with double pointed needles? I knit you not!

Tribe Yarns

We have a return visit to one of my favourite yarn shops – Tribe Yarns – in England. Actually, it’s not really a return, although it’s the second appearance on the show for the owner Milli. In her first appearance she showed us how to wind a ball of yarn from a skein without the use of a ball winder and swift. This time, she gives us a tour of her store and has a wonderful chat with us about her journey to becoming a yarn store owner. We’re also making plans for me to do a workshop there at some point in time in the future.

Lastly we talk with Jillian, of Mothy and the Squid. I know I’ve said it before, but this lady simply blows my mind when it comes to yarn dyeing. I think she’s got a magic cauldron somewhere that she puts a picture in then adds the yarn and out it comes already dyed. She sits down with us though and tells us how she makes these amazing skeins of yarn. If you’ve never seen her work you’re in for a treat. And you can check out her Instagram page to see more examples of what I’m talking about. It will leave you speechless!

Okay, that’s the Coles notes on EP10, and we’re already halfway through editing EP11, so it will definitely be up and ready in 2 weeks. Make sure you subscribe to the channel to find out when it gets uploaded, and leave a comment on this one to let me know what you want to learn in KnitU and what you think of the show overall!
