Need more wool … AGHHHHHHH!

You would think that someone who teaches other people how to knit would have learned certain lessons by now. Yeah, you’d think. One of the few rules of knitting is to always make sure you have enough yarn before starting a project. It’s probably the most important rule to boot. When you bought yarn for that first pattern I am sure the salesperson said to you that you should buy and extra ball in the same dye lot just in case. Yes, it does sometimes lead to an addition in your stash, but it also made sure you would never run out of yarn. Somewhere I have found myself as of right now. How did I get here? Remember the Adam’s Rib sweater I made for Mike a little while back? Oh, a little segway, he has it, it fits, and he loves it! I decided to make one for me too. Yes, I’ve shown you pictures of it along the way, ad a little further down in this post is another. I also decided I would do it top down, and in three colors. The problem is I underestimated how much wool I had left over from doing Mike’s.

So now here I am with a sleeveless sweater needing some brown wool. Luckily for me this isn’t a huge dilemma for a couple of reasons.

  • The wool I used is readily available – Paton’s Fisherman’s Wool. When buying yarn for a large project, if you’re unable to buy all you need at the time, make sure that it is a current yarn and you’ll be able to get more at a later date. If you can’t, have the seller hold some for you until you can get more.
  • Luckily, the dye lot wasn’t important. Normally when working with solid colors (and even some variegated ones) you have to ensure they dye lot is the same. The slightly tweedy nature of this particular brown makes that unimportant though. Also, because it is only the sleeves left to do, any difference in shading won’t be as noticeable. I’ll alternate 2 rows of each sleeve for an inch between each dye lot if the are different.

Here is a picture of the sweater as it now fits. I might make it a little longer, but I’ll wait to see how it fits after it’s finished and blocked. I’ll be sure to put an update up as well.

Hugzzz 😎
