More Common Threads …

I know it’s Tuesday and you’re probably expecting Tuesday’s Tips, but unfortunately they won’t be here today. Actually, I won’t be doing the tips regularly anymore. They will still happen, just not every Tuesday. I do have something special for today though. Last week I put up a post called A Common Thread. I am pleased to say that the reaction was better than I had expected. I have been working on the idea of A Common Thread and was planning on using it as a way of connecting different knitting groups to work on common projects together. It was to be a local endeavor at first, then to evolve and spread globally. I was planning on working out all the kinks and launching it in the spring (with a wee test run next month during a road trip). I got the idea today though, of doing something smaller yet potentially huge to get it started now.

The plan is simply this – I would like all of you that are reading this to contact one other knitter that you know (more if you like) to read this post. What I would like for all of us to do is to make an item for someone you don’t know for Christmas. There is no limit on the size of the item – whatever you feel you can finish before Christmas. It can be an ornament to put on a tree, a dishcloth, a scarf, or even a sweater. Considering that this will be given to someone you don’t know, you’ll probably want to make it out of easy care yarn. Once you have completed the project, take a picture of it. If you are able to take a picture of it when you give it to the person, that would be fabulous as well! As for that, the giving part. There are many ways you can do this. You can approach a total stranger on the street and give it to them. You can donate it to a local charity that gives items like this to those in need. You can gather a group of friends that have done this and go to an area that has a lot of homeless or disadvantaged people that are in need of whatever you have made. The choice is up to you, the only stipulations are that you do it in a manner that doesn’t compromise your safety, and you give it to a stranger. With the gift, you can write a small note on a business card sized piece of paper (or blank business card) to wish the recipient peace and joy. Somewhere on the card write the words “A Common Thread”.

When you have finished this, please email me a picture of what you made, and if you are able to give it to someone and take a picture, that one too.  will be creating a page on Facebook and this site (planning on updating it over the holidays) and I will be posting the pictures on there. Remember, the projects can be of any size that you are able to complete. I will update this blog as I receive submissions. Oh, one last thing. When you send me the pictures by email (please send them to mrhugzzz@gmail.com), please let me know where you are – city and country are all I need. Thanks a bunch for your help and please spread the word about this. Let’s see how common we can get before Christmas!

Hugzzz 😎
