Knitting in the Shadows … Part II

[Translate] If you missed the first part of Shadow or Illusion knitting, you’ll want to scroll down the page and read that post before jumping into this one, or you’ll be a little confused. In the last post we talked about what Illusion Knitting was and how you create the effect of stripes and a graphic in your knitting when viewed at different angles. Today we’re actually going to chart the graphic of the Olympic rings that we were looking at. In actuality, it’s already charted. What we need to do now is clean up the chart (fix and […]

Knitting in the Shadows …

[Translate] Shadow Knitting may be new to you, but I assure you it’s been around for awhile. I myself have done a few posts on it in the past, and there’s lots of information about it all over. There’s books (search Vivian Hoxboro), groups (check Ravelry), and videos (look on You Tube). This post is about breaking it down a bit and hopefully giving you the courage to try it yourself. It’s an extremely simple thing to do once you make a chart as it’s only knits and purls. It can be done in 1 or 2 colors (or […]

Fall into Inspiration …

[Translate] Fall is arguably the best season of the year for inspiration for knitters. While Spring boasts the color of fresh blossoms, Fall has the color of the leaves as they change color. This isn’t all though, as Fall also brings the desire to knit as the days get cooler and we have the urge to get comfy and warm. This picture of Mud Lake in Northern Wisconsin by Mike Crowley, almost transports you to the water’s edge in an Adirondack chair with a steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate and your current knitting project! It’s easy to […]

Kauri review …

[Translate] Today’s post is on another of the yarns from Zealana – Kauri. Kauri is a worsted weight yarn composing of 60% NZ Merino, 30% Possum, and 10% Silk. It comes in 50g balls of approximately 86m or 94y. The suggested gauge for this yarn is 20 stitches to 4 inches using 4.5mm needles. I have found though that it will knit up anywhere from 16 – 20 stitches quite nicely simply by changing the needles. Being a loose knitter I get 18 stitches with 4.5mm and 16 with 5mm. Your results may vary, but you’ll be pleased with […]

The return of the slouchie …

[Translate] Well, it never really went away, but I say return as this is the second post I’ve done with a slouchie hat in it. The great thing about slouchies is that you don’t have to have a ton of hair to wear them and have them look good on you. I mean, yes, rastahs have been wearing them for ages with their dreads usually hidden by  colorful bands of wool, but you don’t have to. Diane is proof of that. This is her wearing one I whipped up on set a few weeks ago. As you can see, […]
