Inspiration and passions …

If you’re a knitter and reading this, you probably have something or someone that inspires you. You’re probably also passionate about something in life and probably in knitting. If you’ve read my posts before this, you’ll know that I am passionate about most things in knitting, and especially cables. The other day I was at my regular Thursday knitting group and found myself inspired by the work of other knitters I know – most notably Erin. She had a pair of Estonian gloves she had made and was diligently working on yet another pair of socks. The thing that was amazing about the socks was that she was knitting the socks in sport weight yarn but on 3 mm needles. Needless to say, I was amazed! Here is a picture of the gloves finished and in progress. Erin, I hope you’re okay with me putting up these pictures.

The finished gloves ...

In progress ... notice the needles ...

I’ve also found inspiration from other knitters – OctaviaPink who has a blog posted a picture of a blanket she made for a friend! I became inspired to make the heritage blanket I have been planning for years. Now that I’ve worked out some of the braid patterns, it’s that much closer to becoming a reality. Just a couple of days ago I came across a knitters blog and picture gallery in Flickr. It took me a good hour just to skim through the pictures of her stash, bunnies, and projects she had knitted. I found myself inspired to learn even more as it made me realize just how much more there was to learn. Have you ever found yourself in that situation? I find myself there all the time. Which brings me to the biggest source of inspiration I have – nature. There are times when I’m looking for that particular shape, or the right color combination and I can’t quite get it right. It’s never anything a good walk can’t cure. You just have to step outside, open your eyes, and have a good look around. There’s a lot of inspiration all around in some of the most surprising places. Nature has the most beautiful colorways you can imagine, and is filled with mathematical derivations that lend themselves to knitting. No, you don’t have to be a professor to understand them, but they are there.

So this post was just a way of me thanking the people I know that have been an inspiration to me (and there are a lot more that I didn’t mention) and also to let you know where you may find some if you’re ever in need. Here are some links to the three I mentioned in this article in case you’d like to have a peek at what they’re up to. I’ll post more in the future – promise!

Erin – Plastic Alligator

OctaviaPink – The Twisted Braid

Gabriella – YowlYY

I hope you find inspiration to feed your passion everywhere.

Hugzzz 😎
