Torch burning bright …

Yes, the whole world seems to be hanging out downtown!

Well, the spring – I mean Winter Olympics are well on their way and I am about to cast on for my Knitting Olympics project. I’m taking an approach from a friend of mine in one of the knitting groups I go to and winging it – kinda. I have a good idea of what I want it to look like and what features will be on it so I think I’ll be okay. I’m a little impatient to get it going on the needles though, so I’ll definitely be casting on later today. I just have to get this yarn wound up in order to do that. Preparation is just as important as execution. I took yesterday to go downtown to print out my graph paper, help a friend get a website going, and enjoy the sights of the Olympics. It’s hard to believe the number of people milling around on the streets of downtown. What I couldn’t believe was that there were people driving around on the few streets that were open to traffic. What were they thinking??

The cauldron holding the Olympic flame.

I revisited the site of the cauldron that is carrying the flame and was pleased to see that the fencing had been moved back so it was easier to take pictures. You can also take pictures from above it now as well, so I’ll have to go back some time next week and do that. There is also a zip line that goes over Robson street. I will definitely have to do that next week as well but the line-ups were 4 – 6 hours today. It opens at 10:00 and people start lining up at around 6 in the morning! I know that the Olympics always cause protests but I personally think it’s great to have them here. The fantastic weather may be wreaking havoc with the scheduling of some of the events, but apparently it happens everywhere and now the whole world knows we live in the most beautiful city on the planet! If you read my post yesterday you’ll know  I am a bit of a curling fan and the Canadian Women opened with a 2-0 record after another great game yesterday. They didn’t curl particularly well, but they were playing Japan who showed their inexperience throughout and gave Canada the opening they needed in the 10th end to score  2 and win 7-6 (there must have been a change as during the match it appeared they scored 3.). We’re also getting more medals as we got a silver in Women’s 500m Short Track Speed Skating and now with 1/10th of the athletes we’re in 4th place in the medal standings! Go Canada – keep the flame burning bright!

Hugzzz 😎
