Some of you reading this may have participated in a World Wide Knit in Public day event on Saturday, June 14th. There were many such events all over the world organized by groups, yarn shops, and individuals all over the world. There were quite a few here in the greater Vancouver area of BC, but unfortunately I couldn’t participate in any of them because I was working on a commercial for Jeep (a little more on that later). There will be an entire segment devoted to knitting in public (KIPing) in the new episodes of the show!
The good news though is that I did get a chance to knit in public – on the set of the commercial – and I still have the chance to participate in an official event until the 22nd. If you missed the knitting last weekend, you can either set up something yourself, or go to the WWKIP day website (click on the link you just read) and check to see if there’s an event near you. While you’re there, you may want to consider leaving a donation to help Astrid help you by keeping the site up and updated. She does a lot of work and gives everyone a place where they can check to see what’s in their area. The site is maintained through your donations, so show her some love!
Here’s a picture of me doing some knitting in public on the set of the commercial.
I don’t ever do this, but I’m going to break a few of my rules on this blog post. The rest of this post is not about knitting at all, but the commercial I was on this weekend. As some of you know, I sometimes take work as a background performer (extra) on TV shows and movies. For the past 6 months I have only been doing this on commercials and this weekend I was on one. I have to say, it was the coolest set I have ever been on!! They turned downtown Vancouver, well, one block of Granville street anyways, into a winter wonderland for 2 days to get one shot (probably about 10 seconds) for this commercial! This set turned the street into a river (via a fully contained water feature) that the Jeep continually had to drive through! There was snow, rocks, trees, and even a real live WOLF!!! And you know what, the Jeep looks pretty rad too!
I actually got to teach someone how to knit as well, so I guess there was some knitting involved!! Our Close Knit Community has grown by one! I can’t wait for this commercial to come out to see the final cut!! Hopefully I’m not breaking any confidentiality agreements by talking about this as there were hundreds of people taking pictures and there was even a news report about it. The snow could be seen from blocks away and it caused quite a commotion downtown. Traffic was nuts and people were gawking all day! I’ll leave you with a few pics and tomorrow’s post will be back to all knitting – promise! 😉
Hugzzz 😎
