2014 …

Well, it’s that time again! What the heck happened to 2013? Oh well, time to seize the day, or in this case, year. 2014 will be grand – I can feel it. And while I’m full of this new found optimism that seems to come from the calendar flipping over another day, I’ll do something I don’t usually do. I’m going to make a few resolutions. Now if you’ve been around from the beginning (or if you search waaaaay back on this site), you’ll know/see that I have done this before. Once. Yeah, it was that successful. So why do I want to try it again? well, you know, if at first and all that jazz. No seriously, there are a few things I’d like to accomplish this year, and you can help me out simply by reading them in this post. I’m hoping that somewhere along the way (during the year) someone will post a comment saying something like … “Hey Hugzzz, where are you with those resolutions”? I know a few of you will do it for sure!! So here we go then … although some of these will read more like goals than resolutions. But isn’t that what they really are?

  • Knit 1,000 stitches a day. This one seems strange, but I got the number 365 stuck in my head last week as I was watching some sort of countdown or mention to the fact that the year has 365 days. Now for most things knitting 365 is either a small number or an extremely large number. Think 365 stitches or 365 sweaters. See what I mean? So I started to wonder what would 365,000 stitches look like? I started doing some calculating and it turns out my Barrington Braid scarf has somewhere around 25,000 stitches in it. So if I made 15 of those I would have knit a little more than 365,000 stitches. I’m not going to make 15 of those this year, but I think I can knit 1,000 stitches a day. I’m honestly going to try and do 1,000 a day as well, rather than averaging out what I do. This will keep me knitting all year. Every day! Yikes!
  • Finish the 4 sweaters and 1 coat that have been UFO’s for the last 3 years. I have four sweaters and 1 coat in various stages of construction. The coat needs to be finished by he end of this month. Long story, but it’s for my knitting group that I go to on Sundays. I need to shock the heck out of someone by finishing it. Of the sweaters, 1 needs a neck, 1 needs sleeves and a neck and finishing, another needs just sleeves, and the last was frogged (the back and front) so really needs to be completely redone.
  • Knit 4 pairs of socks and 2 pairs of legwarmers. Sounds simple, but in truth these should have been done ages ago (except the legwarmers). I won’t get into details, but let’s just say I need to do this. This year! It’s time.
  • Peruse 1 knitting book each week. Some knitting books are difficult to read, so I used the word peruse. By this I mean I will ingest as much information as I can about the book. I’ll make notes of my favorites for a special project later this year. Stay tuned.
  • Put up a new blog post 3x each week. I’ve gotten a little erratic over the last year or so in my postings. I’ll work on that. I have enough to say to probably do 2 posts a day, so 3 a week should be easy. And I’ve found it to be a good number to keep y’all interested. 😉

Okay, I think that that should suffice. Luckily, I’ve already knit 1,000 stitches today and I did so yesterday as well. The others, well, let’s just say this should be a fun and interesting year! And just in case you wondered what 365,000 stitches looked like, here you go …

Happy New Year!

Hugzzz 😎
