It’s actually amazing how much is going on in the world of knitting. Thankfully, we have the internet these days, so it’s easier to keep abreast of all the events that occur during the year. There are quite a few events that happen on the international stage that you’d have very little information about unless you knew about it directly. Now we have Google and finding those events is a lot easier. If you’re planning on taking a vacation this year or are traveling out of your neck of the woods, I recommend doing a quick search beforehand to see if there’s anything interesting going on where you’ll be when you’ll be there. Or maybe there’s something slightly earlier or later and your plans are flexible?
I couldn’t possibly list all (or even a small percentage) of the events happening worldwide on here, but luckily I don’t have to. Now that you know what to do, you can spend a few minutes checking yourself. I do want to point out a few here though, simply because they’re pretty big here in North America and I plan on going to a couple of them.
VOGUE KNITTING LIVE – VKL is going to be in Seattle, WA from April 5 – 7. If you’re on the west side of the continent, make sure you plan on being there! If you’re in the Vancouver, BC area and want to go down with other people, check my Facebook page for the event I’m organizing to do just that. If you’re not able to make it though, don’t fret. They’ve announced Chicago again from Nov 1- 3, and New York next year from January 17 – 19. Registration is open for Seattle and will open for the others later in the year. All the details can be found here – VKL DATES.
STITCHES – Once again the Stitches tour will travel across the United States, starting with Stitches West. West will be in Santa Clara, CA from February 21-24. There are three others as well – Stitches South in Atlanta, GA from April 11 – 14, Midwest in Schamburg, IL from August 8 – 11, and East in Hartford, CT from Nov 7 – 10. The dates for the 2014 events are also up on the website. For more information, go here – STITCHES.
STITCH AND PITCH – While these are the two major events in NA, they are by no means the only ones. A fun one that may visit your city is the Stitch and Pitch events that have rapidly grown in popularity. This is not a convention, rather a fun filled evening of baseball and knitting and crocheting. Stitch and Pitch travels across the Major League Baseball schedule to have an evening where people are encouraged to bring their knitting while enjoying a baseball game. Here is their website so you can check to see if there’s one near you! STITCH AND PITCH. Stitch and Pitch is organized by TNNA, who is also putting on a very large trade show this weekend – so a lot of LYS may be a little understaffed this weekend.
Like I said, there are numerous events all over. If you’re having trouble finding them, go to your LYS and ask them of any they know about. Chances are if there’s an event near you, they’ll have heard about it or are going to be there. If you’re planning on going to one of the bigger ones (like the ones listed above) let em know and maybe I’ll see you there!
Hugzzz 😎
