Bombs Away!

Okay, I know i said my next post was going to be the rest of the review of the Webs ICNs, but things happen. And when the universe hits you in the face with a big ol’ yarn bomb, well, you gotta get the point! So this morning a friend of mine sent me a link on FaceBook (thanks Sandra, aka Fox). Loved it and thought I’d do a post on it as it’s about yarn bombing! Fro there i followed another link and found another cool knitter interested in the yarn bombing movement. And another and I’m sure if I continued I would have a few hundred links to share with you in no time. I have decided to show unprecedented restraint though and only send you to these 3, after which I am not responsible for what you choose to do. In other words, if you get fired, sorry, not my fault. And don’t worry, all the links are SFW (Safe For Work). 😉

Clicking on the above picture will take you to an article about KNITTAPLEASE, who is textile artist Magda Sayeg, who has knitted 99 tree cozies for trees in Austin Texas. The article gives you all the details, including the fact that she had the help of 170 volunteers to help spread the word about Blanton Museum’s current exhibition Recovering Beauty. Clicking on her name will take you to her website/blog and needless to say I was astounded. This is a bomber to the max! I love what she did with the mini. Oh, you haven’t clicked yet? You can do so here as well – KNITTAPLEASE!

Then there’s the work of Juliana Santacruz Herrera. He has decided to yarn bomb potholes in Paris, France with brightly colored yarn in order to cheer up the place. Again, clicking on the picture will take you to the article and more links – be warned, your boss may be watching you!

And lastly (for now and definitely not least), there’s Stormerela, who’s entire site is about yarn bombing. Yes, you guessed it – click the picture to go to her website. On her site I found out that June 11th is International Yarn Bombing Day. Now I don’t know who decides these things, but I do know i think it’s a great idea. I have had a notion for a while now to bomb two places in Vancouver – a bunch of the parking meters in the West End and a big ugly tank in the Olympic Village. I could use a little help if anyone is interested in giving me a hand. Let me know.

One other thing, there’s a really cool commercial that I found on Stormerela’s site as well.

Hugzzz 😎
