Lace Knitting

Check-in – Lace KAL, Angel, and what’s next …

Hi everybody, This post is just as the title says – a check in on what’s on the needles (mine and yours), and what’s coming up. First things first though, you have until this Sunday to purchase a copy of Angel if you want to have a chance of winning it for free. I still haven’t decided on the exact contest yet, but the winners will have their purchase price of Angel refunded in full. That means you will have gotten the pattern for free. Not a bad deal, huh? So anyone who has gotten a copy of Angel […]

Pick your poison …

Well, it’s time to see what you have learned with the lace. I have a good idea what Antoinette has learned because she has sent in some pictures of her lace swatches, but the rest of you haven’t. So I am hoping that at this point you are able to do the following with regards to lace; Cast on using two  or three different methods (loosely) and also using the Provisional Cast on Deftly execute the YO for those wonderful holes we will be strategically placing in our work Increase and decrease to the right and left one or […]

It’s my Birthday and I’ll knit if I want to …

Well, who says you can’t have fun on your birthday and knit as well? As a matter of fact, I’ll get some knitting in a little bit later (I’m writing this post very early indeed), but before the mojitos start flowing. This is a short post, just to make sure you’re on the right track with the lace KAL. When last I left you, you had the choice of one of two patterns to work on (I know some of you did both – way to go). The purpose of those patterns were threefold; They were more difficult patterns […]

Lace it up …

Okay, it’s time for our last swatch, but before we do that, it’s also time for some changes. By now you’ve gotten used to putting holes (YO’s) in your work and you’re worked a single left slanting and right slanting decrease as well as a double decrease. You don’t know everything about lace knitting yet, but you’re well on your way. There is more to learn but we’ll tackle it as we get to it. In the meantime we need to discuss yarn and casting on. Let’s start with yarn. We’ve been using DK weight yarn for our samples […]

Block it out!

I know you’re going to find this hard to believe, but knitting lace is a lot like football – at least in one way. You’ll do a lot better when you block. In football, a coach will tell you the success of his running game lives and dies with the blocks – just ask Emmitt Smith of the Dallas Cowboys. He’s the smallest rusher ever yet holds the records for most yards in a career for that position. He regularly credited his blockers in front of him for his success. Yeah, okay, it’s a stretch but I just wanted […]
