Knitting in the Shadows … Part III

Wool you be my Valentine? Late you say? No, it’s not at all. This is a special Valentine’s going out to everyone – coupled or not. I hope you agree that “love” shouldn’t be celebrated on 1 day of the year – but the whole way through.  It’s also the wrap up of the Shadow Knitting posts I’ve been doing this week. If you’ve been doing the rings I’d like to suggest that you try and pattern the rest of it on your own using the chart that I gave you. It’s a nifty exercise and you should be able to do it now. If you can’t, send me a comment here and I’ll send the chart to you.

The last thing I’ll mention when it comes to Illusion Knitting is yarn selection. As I said in the previous post, contrasting colors work best, but are not always necessary. I’ve actually seen a couple very striking “illusions” that are done in “relief” rather than the contrast. That being said, I’ve made a little surprise for Carly at Cascade yarns, as she picked out the colors for this one herself. The Cascade 220 is a fantastic yarn for Shadow Knitting because of several factors. The weight is perfect that you can knit it on several different needle sizes to give different sizes to the work. It’s a smooth wool that soft to the touch and if you want you can even get the Superwash version so that your creation is machine washable. The last thing about the 220 is that it comes in so many colors, finding a combination that’s right for your project will be easy!

Here’s a little something I whipped up for the occasion using Cascade 220 and 2 colors picked out by Carly!

As I told someone yesterday, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Shadow Knitting. Here’s a little video showing you some of the endless possibilities …
