In conversation with Mr Hugzzz …

About a month ago I put up a video with the same title as this blog post where I discussed a few things with you in a candid conversational type setting. If you haven’t yet seen it, I’d like to invite you to have a look. It’s one of the 3 free videos on the site, so it won’t cost you anything, but it may give you some insight into what I’m doing and why. Here’s the link … HUGZZZ. This is a sort of similar thing, but in the form of a blog post. Its came about because I have to apologize to the viewers who have shown the faith I know is out there and subscribed to the show that I created and have up on that site. When I originally envisioned the show, I saw that there were enough topics there to film for years to come, and even when that was exhausted, years more as new things to talk about in the world of knitting are coming up every day.

What I didn’t envision, well, not deeply enough, was the cost behind producing these shows and putting them up online. In actually, I think I did look at that, but I guess I didn’t think that it would be difficult to get everyone else to see it and subscribe to watch the show. I thought that I would be able to get quite a few people to sign up to pay to watch the shows, which would generate a certain amount of revenue to allow me to continue to do more shows, while increasing the quality and production value at the same time. Then I would have all kinds of figures to give to potential sponsors and investors (they like that kind of stuff) and I would then get money from them to continue doing the shows so I could lower the cost to the viewers and possibly attract even more and so on and so on. Hopefully you’re able to follow that convoluted logic to see the point I’m trying to make here.

Anyway, what has happened is that I haven’t YET attracted enough viewers to the show to allow further production. The 10 episodes have eaten up the miniscule seed money I had (and then some) and I have far fewer viewers than I anticipated. So I have to temporarily halt production of the show. Don’t panic, and don’t despair. I promise you it is not dead, and there will be more episodes. Hopefully, this is just a minor hiccup, and we’ll just be short 1 episode, which we’ll make up later. The truth of the matter is that this may be a good thing in the long run. Michael and I had a very candid discussion this morning and he pointed out to me that if I continue to produce episodes of the show while sustaining increasing debt, people will think that it will continue to magically appear every week. That, unfortunately, is not the case. There isn’t (at least not to my knowledge) any magic button. If someone knows of one please send me a message telling me of its location!

So how can you help? If you haven’t checked out the show yet, please do. If after watching one of the free episodes you think you like it, please subscribe to watching it. Try it for a couple of months and allow me to make more and better episodes. It will only cost you $20. That’s 4 lattes at Starbucks. But it’s a whole lot of enjoyment in terms of a few hours of knitting fun and information! You’ll also get entered into the current (and the ones upcoming) contest that’s running. And I’m sure I’ll come up with something else along the way as well. And for everybody, even if you’re a current subscriber or a new one after reading the above, please share this with everyone you know through all the social media sites at your disposal and just good old fashioned conversations with your friends – knitters or not. You never know who the people you know know.

Truth be told, I’ve had a very rough last few weeks and was very close to considering other options with regards to this show. I don’t mean cancelling it, I really think it’s a great idea and has humongolous potential that I haven’t even begun to realize, just other options that might have meant that it changed into something entirely different. 3 things helped steel my efforts to continue along the chosen path though …

  1. I made a promise to you to put out this show and it has been my dream for the greater part of my life, even though I was only consciously aware of it for the last few years.
  2. My discussion with Michael this morning where he “hammered me” for 2 hours and still wanted to continue doing this. You can’t find that kind of faith in any church I know of and there’s no way I can let him down.
  3. I got an email from a friend of mine, Susie Lee, that has a blog about living your best life. It was just that there was a new post up and it was a very simple one, but it couldn’t have come at a more poignant time for me. It made me realize that regardless of everything else, THIS is my best life. It may not always be easy, (it actually rarely is), but it is my best life and it’s what I have to do. So I’m going to stay the course and I hope you join me in this adventure. If you click the picture below you’ll go to Susie’s blog. I think you’ll enjoy it as well.

If you’ve made it this far thank you for reading. The regularly scheduled blogging will continue in the next post.
