Knit City in Vancouver …

This past weekend in Vancouver, fiber artists were pleased that Knit Social launched the first Vancouver Fiber Festival in recent memory at Knit City! And that includes this knitter, as I made some great contacts and was even able to add to my stash! Yeah, I know, you don’t think I need more yarn, but you’re actually wrong. My stash is not what is was last year and I need to replenish it big time. I also scored some new needles that I’ll be reviewing in an upcoming post quite soon!

Through the work of Amanda Wise (Milne?) and Fiona McLean of Knit Social, vendors packed into the Croatian Cultural Center on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. And just like the line from the famous movie, if you build it they will come, come they did! In droves! The line up was around the building in the a.m. on Saturday, everybody wanting to be one of the first 50 to get a swag bag filled with goodies from vendors and sponsors of the event. If you didn’t get one though, you were still in for a treat once you got inside. Can you say yarn?? Yarn from everywhere – as far east as Ontario, north from Gibsons, and south as Oregon! A special shout out to a great friend Andrea from Apple Yarns in Bellingham who was there with her wares even though she was unable to sell anything.

There were lessons offered and demos on topics such as needle felting, spinning, weaving, and of course knitting! With all this hands on interaction the event was a great success. Hopefully next year’s events is even bigger and convinces more local shops to participate. What did I walk away with? Yarn of course and some of the new Cubics square needles from Webs. I’m working with them right now and will let you know my thoughts later this week. I can’t possible post all the pictures I took or mention all the vendors that were there, so I suggest you visit the Knit City website and check out who was there and keep in touch for future events. You’ll find the ladies here … KNIT SOCIAL.

Here are a few pics from the event and again, apologies for not mentioning everyone (I’m sure Amanda and Fiona will have something about it on their site soon) …
