If you’ve gotten your calendar, you’ll see a very interesting scarf in September. It’s a shadow knit scarf and from the angles it was shot at you should be able to make out the shape of a heart quite easily. If you could factor in for the distortion, it would be an exact replica of the logo for HEART-ART, Lara West’s company and website.
Lara was even thoughtful enough to paint her toenails pink for the shoot. If you remember a post a little while back, you’ll have an idea of how we get the image of the heart in the knitting. I know, you’re thinking it always looks like that. Well, in actuality, it doesn’t. When you look at the scarf head-on, you just see pink and white stripes. It’s the technique of creating ridges and valleys by varying out stitches and colors that gives the illusion of a heart at certain angles. If you look at it carefully you can make out the heart when viewing it head on as well. The great thing about Lara’s scarf is that it looks pretty good just as a striped scarf as well.
I mentioned Lara’s company in the opening paragraph and I’d like to invite you to visit it through the link above, or this one – HEART ART. Lara does commission pieces as well as non, and has them available on her site for purchase. I’m lucky enough to have one of my very own! If you live locally (the Lower Mainland), you can view Lara’s work at a few shops in the area. She will also be displaying her wares at Havanas Restaurant on Commercial Drive – a popular hangout on the best street in Vancouver. Her work will be on display at Havanas from May 25th – June 5th 2012.
If you’s like a calendar for yourself or for a Christmas gift for someone, you can order them HERE. Remember, as well as helping to fight prostate and breast cancer, you’ll get a chance to win an iPad2 if you order yours on or before December 15th, and you’ll get the pattern for 5 of the scarves in the calendar!
Hugzzz 😎
