Oops …

You know that saying the best laid plans … Yeah, that one. Well, I have two oops to tell you about in a shorter than normal post today …

The first is about ease. Linda commented on it in the last post and made me realize I didn’t mention it in the post. This designing stuff isn’t as easy as it seems – you tend to forget the simplest things. It’s kinda like giving an alien instructions on how to tie shoelaces. It’s an easy process, one you probable can do in your sleep, but when you have to tell someone else how to do it you’ll tend to forget the simplest things. Yup, ease is like that. If you make your top to the exact body measurements you have, depending on the fiber it will be too tight to fit. For most things it won’t work. To avoid that you’ll want to add 1 to 2 inches to all your circumferences. This is the recommended ease for a tighter fitting garment. If you want it as a loose fit, add 3 to 4, again depending on your preference. Try to take into account the fiber as well. Cottons tend to shrink, so will need more, while silks and rayons will relax and “grow” on you. Wool is great as it has great memory and will snap back into shape easily.

The second Oops is a little bit bigger on my part. I misplaced my stitch markers! Not as in I can’t find them, but as in instead of placing my markers at 165 stitches (halfway around the garment) I placed them at 145. Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking, except that maybe I wasn’t thinking. Anyway, I have no choice but to frog this one and start over. I think I’ll cheat though in order to catch up to you guys and gals who have been knitting along with this. I might throw it on the machine and do it in 2 pieces and sew it together after.

If you’re finished shaping and at the waist, you have 2 options. You can wait until Friday when I explain how to do the shaping for the distance between the waist and the lower bust, or you can try and figure it out yourself. It’s not that hard though. You use the same method as when we did the hip to the waist, but you’re going the other way so instead of decreasing you’ll be increasing. Try and figure it out and see what you come up with!

Hugzzz 😎
