The Better Buttonhole …

If you’ve been knitting for any amount of time, you’ve probably had to do a button hole at some point. There are lots of ways to do them, but the most common is probably the 1 row buttonhole. You’ve probably had to make do with the regular method of casting off the number of stitches in the button hole, finish your row, then cast them back on when you get back to it in the next row. As we discussed in the post a few days ago, it’s hard to get a buttonhole that is sturdy enough and still looks good when the button isn’t in it. Well, TechKnitter has come up with a technique that gives what I have found to be the best looking 1 row buttonhole I have seen.  It is called the Tulip buttonhole. Not only that, it is very sturdy and won’t stretch out over time. It looks like it will also support a much heavier button that a regular button hole as well – although I have not tested that yet. I will do that in a future post. This buttonhole is featured in the Summer issue of Interweave knits which is out in the stores now. Knitting Daily has also featured it on their regular emails. If you don’t get those, you may want to sign up for it. Here is the video with Eunny Jang showing the technique behind this great new buttonhole.

TechKnitter has a great blog and is always coming up with great new ways to do the simple things that aren’t quite so simple. You should check it out here – TechKnitter. We however are not finished with buttons yet – there will be another post in the next week or so with some more information on buttons and buttonholes.
