Countess Ablaze!

As you may know, I am currently spending 2 months traveling through the UK and Europe. There are a few reasons for the trip, but among the primary ones are to visit family members and friends that I have not met or seen in ages, and to explore the knitting culture firsthand on the “other side of the pond”! I recently got a chance to do the latter by visiting a yarn store in Manchester, England – Countess Ablaze! I’ve been visiting my aunt Jem for the last week since arriving in the UK, and we went into the […]

Chicago … part 3

Well, it’s almost been a week now since VKL Chicago and I’m still buzzing from the experience. To say it was great would be an understatement! I’ve told you about quite a bit that happened but I haven’t really mentioned the Marketplace! There were Two Floors of vendors displaying their ware for purchases. I wish I could have taken a picture of every booth and talked to everyone, but needless to say there wasn’t enough time for me to do that as well as everything I did. I did get to see every booth though. I can’t possibly report […]

Chicago … cont’d

As promised, more information on the Vogue Knitting Live event that occurred in Chicago last weekend. This post is all about the teachers that were there and the classes they taught. My count of the classes offered numbered more than 200! Can you say WOW??! 200 classes being taught by top rated professionals at your fingertips. My biggest decisions were which ones to attend. Since this was my very first VKL event, I decided to only take a class or two so I could “float” around and soak up the entire atmosphere of the event. With over 200 classes […]

Ruffle Some Feathers …

It seems that every fall there is a new novelty scarf to be made. It usually takes just a ball of yarn and makes a quick (relatively), inexpensive Christmas gift. Or just something to wrap around your neck and complement whatever you’re wearing.Well, this season is no different. This year seems to be the year of the ruffled scarf. Quite a few manufacturers have come out with a ribbon-like yarn that has what appears to be ladders on the top of it that run parallel with the ribbon. You can see from the picture above exactly what I mean. […]

Once Upon A Sheep …

I have had the pleasure of discovering the best kept secret in the Lower Mainland. Tucked into the corner of the Salvation Army and the Caring Place Ministry in Maple Ridge, is a great little yarn shop called Once Upon A Sheep. Now at first, this LYS doesn’t seem to be much different from any other LYS. As a matter of fact, you may have shopped in there without knowing much about it at all. What sets this LYS apart from all the others I have ever been in is that all the proceeds from sales goes towards the […]
