I must apologize for not putting up a post on Friday and Sunday, but the Olympic fever has hit Vancouver full on. I truly believe the entire world has landed at YVR and have flooded the city. There is no way I can describe the sheer mass of people that have invaded the city streets. Getting around downtown has become an adventure, and there is still one week to go. I simply had to take some time to go and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Winter Olympics. You would never know they’re the winter Olympics though as the weather has been over 10\u00b0C and sunny all week. It’s expected to be even warmer this week. I’m not sure what I’m going to do as I have to revisit the city at least twice to do the things I want to do. I mean, I may never be in an Olympic city again in my lifetime! All this has put a bit of a damper on my knitting Olympics project. I have the graph paper and the pattern charted out but I still have to actually color out the design and cast on my stitches! Can I get it done by next Sunday? Doubtful, but I still have the option to continue it during the Paralympic Games. What I may do is plan the second project that I wanted to do if I completed this one in time and try and get both of them done together during the Paralympic games. Well, the objective was to do something personally challenging.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I will have to continue to knit my other projects as well (52 in 52), enjoy the Olympics at home, and still try and have a life. I am enjoying the Olympics even though the Canadian mens hockey team got a setback today. They lost to the USA and now must take the longer trip to the coveted gold medal. I have no doubt they’ll do it, but a lot of people were terribly disappointed at the loss. This is the second game in a row where they totally dominated the opposition but faced a hot goalie and had to fight for every goal. In the end they came up short in their attempt and now have to play Germany in a qualifying match. The womens curling team also lost their first match today, losing 6-5 to China, the defending world champions. I am sure they’ll be able to right their ship however as they are still first overall and guaranteed a berth in the medal rounds with one more win. The men are still undefeated and looking pretty invincible (knock wood). I’ll leave you with a picture of the cauldron holding the Olympic lame as viewed at night. As they say on postcards, I wish you were here!<\/p>\n
