For that reason I am very particular about what I watch on television. One of those shows that I watch is Elementary – the American version of the incredibly brilliant UK Sherlock! If you haven’t seen either, I highly recommend you tune in to both. The latter, Sherlock, is IMHO the best show on television and I can’t wait for Season 3 to come along. Quite often when the American production companies copy a successful show from the UK the results are less than desirable. I’m glad to say that this is not the case here. So far I am quite pleased with Elementary, and find myself anticipating where the show will lead.

What does this have to do with knitting? Well, one of the actors in Elementary is Lucy Liu. I have to admit she is one of the reasons I watch the show – I have always liked her (she had a great role in Lucky Number Sleven amongst countless others) and think she’s a very good actress who never overplays her part. I find her very attractive and she also has a great sense of style. I know this probably has a lot to do with the wardrobe stylist on the show, but I like to think she has some input into how she appears as well. Which takes me to the point of this posting. In the most recent episode (just aired after the Super Bowl) she is wearing a stunning scarf that I have to make!

Here are some screen captures of it … This is her wearing it unfurled …

… and below wrapped like an infinity scarf.

Later in the same episode she sports a fantastic cabled slouchie. You have to forgive the captures, the detail isn’t as clear as I would like. She definitely has a cabled theme going on in this episode with the ribbed reversible scarf and the fat and thin cabled slouchie.

While the hat pattern would be very easy to reverse engineer, the scarf requires a little more thought. The method is actually not very complicated, you just have to think outside of the box. Think a provisional cast on of three rib panels, knitting those rib panels, weaving them in a braid, then joining the ends together using the Kitchener stitch! As soon as I complete a few projects I’ll get on writing out the pattern for you!

Hugzzz 😎

It’s no secret that I use knitting as an excuse to watch television – it’s the only justification I can come up with to spend countless hours watching a screen of quite often very poorly thought out entertainment.
