It happened by accident, but it’s one of those fortunate accidents. I was on the site and noticed that I had a few friend suggestions from FB. The surprising thing about it was that I had more that 50 mutual friends with the suggested people. So, totally against my usual character, I clicked add friend to the first ones that showed up. As soon as I did that, five more appeared. Needless to say, in a matter of about 2 minutes I had sent out about 30 friend requests.

What was really surprising though, was that some pretty big names in the knitting world were starting to appear. These were some people I had listed I had wanted to meet from my 6 degrees of separation post last year! I had just assumed that they wouldn’t have a personal page on FB, and had never thought to check. So now, thankfully I am friends with Lucy Neatby, Kat Bordhi, Franklin Habit, and Melissa Leapman, to name a few (and many more than I can mention here). No, I’m not a name dropper, but these are some people who I admire and respect tremendously and am glad to have contact with. I’vewanted to contact Melissa especially for a long time and discuss cables with her! I’d like to point out though that I treasure all the connections I have made over the last week (and hopefully will continue to make) equally, whether they’re a big name designer/author, or not.

The reason I have started adding people from the knitting world is that it’s a win-win situation. I hope to get inspiration and ideas from posts that they put up on FB, and hopefully they will gain a little from what I do as well. It also gives me a better insight as to what people are doing in the knitting world and what they’d like to learn about. This social media phenomenon that we’re a part of can be a good or bad thing, depending on how we decide to use it. I’m hoping that I’m using it in a positive way and will reach out to more people in the process. So if you get a friend request from me in the next little while (or if you already have), I’d be honored if you accepted it. I sent it because we already have a Common Thread – and I can’t wait to discover more.

Besides, we are a pretty close knit bunch!

Hugzzz 😎

Well, I have to admit that I’ve turned into a bit of a Facebook junkie over the last week.
