Yup, you read the title right. Most of us haven’t even started thinking of what we’re making for Christmas yet, but England is well into preparations for next year’s summer Olympics. It seems that a bunch of knitters, actually from all over Leicester, have been thinking about it too. In fact, they’ve been doing a little more than thinking. To date, there are over 10,000 knit and crochet 6 inch squares that have been collected for what I am sure is going to be the largest blanket ever!<\/p>\n

Above is a picture of the blanket still under construction. The blanket is on display in Leicester as part of an exhibition to celebrate the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic games of 2012. It is the hope of the exhibit to reflect the legacy of the Olympic games in a creative way.<\/p>\n

“The blanket, currently on display at New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, Leicester, represents about a quarter of the 10,000 squares collected so far. After the Games the blanket will be dismantled into smaller blankets and donated to charity<\/em>.”<\/p>\n
