I can’t believe it’s been a month since my last post! I am sooooo sorry. Yes, things happen, and I have been a little busy, but I honestly don’t know where the month went.I’m going to blame it on the weather – yeah, that’s right. It’s all mother nature’s fault. No seriously, the blame is all mine and I promise to never let it happen again. So where were we? … Oh, yeah, the summer top. Well, if you started the top, don’t fret. I will have the full pattern written up and on the blog, along with a few pics of the finished product this weekend. Needless to say, another lesson learned with this one. That is – KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid! If you look back at my posts about the top, you’ll see that while the finished product looks like a very intricate piece of work, it’s really a very simply constructed piece. One that as a matter of fact, was too simple. I am certain that someone took some liberties with the finished product (butterfly clips in the back on the pictures) to give the appearance of more shape than the finished garment really had. The cowl on the garment is actually an ingeniously simple idea though, and my kudos go to the designer.

So in order to make the piece look like the actual picture, I decided to follow the design of the cowl (2 large rectangles attached strategically at the waist and along the side seam) but give the tank top underneath a little shaping to flatter the figure of the person wearing it. As you know, I have a model that I am customizing the fit for so that it will hug her curves to a ‘t’, but unfortunately I can’t do that for everyone so the finished pattern will be a generic shaped tank in S, M. L, and XL. I will finish explaining how I did the shaping however so that you may do the same if you want to. Again, look for that on the weekend – maybe with a post about how it’s coming along before then.It will still be finished in time for you to enjoy this piece this summer, and into the early fall. Unlike the original piece, I think you can use almost any light weight fiber and make a practical and functional piece without giving up and of the elegance. The first one I’m making is using a DK weight silk/wool blend and the second a lace weight weight pure merino wool that I will double.

As for what’s on the needles after that, well, you’ll have to stay tuned to see. There’s lots going on in this head of mine and yarn is being used up from my stash if you can believe that! It’s getting smaller right now. I might have to do something about that. Okay, I’m off to enjoy the rest of what’s turned out to be a beautiful summer day!

Hugzzz 😎

Wow!
