As it turns out, it will also be a road trip. For those of you not located close enough geographically to participate with our group, I invite you to try and organize one of your own and see what you can do. Even a dishcloth will be fine. If you are close enough geographically to participate with our group though, book Saturday, January 29th on your calendar. On that day we will be traveling to Victoria, BC to visit three yarn shops. I have worked out a deal with 2 of the three to give a discount to members of the group that make purchases during the trip. I will be doing a post on all three of the locations before the 29th so you will have an idea of what you’ll see. Luckily, the three shops offer something a little different. One has a great selection of fibers, another is fantastic if you’re into spinning and dyeing, and the third has a stupendous selection of buttons and other accessories. Hopefully this will encourage other fiber artists to come along as well – not just knitters and crocheters.

I haven’t worked out all the details yet, but the jist of it will be as follows:

We will travel to the Ferry Terminal in Tsawwassen and take the ferry to Victoria. We will then travel to downtown Victoria by transit (I may be able to get a bus or a deal depending on numbers). The three shops are within 5 minutes walk of each other so we will be able to browse at our leisure. We will pick a spot for lunch (you may choose another if you like) and have a bite to eat before heading back with our goodies. There is one other thing to mention though – we will try and create a blanket in a day. During the travels to and from Victoria, we will knit and crochet squares. On the way back on the ferry, we will put them together to make a blanket. If you have any worsted weight easy care yarn (an acrylic/wool mix is best – like Decor by Patons) that you can use, that would be great. I will have some on hand as well for anyone without. Please bring 4, 4.5, or 5mm needles to use though, depending on your tension (tighter knitters bring 5, looser, 4). You do not have to be an expert knitter to participate in this! All levels are welcome and it is not mandatory at all. I will try to get on the ferry at the front and pick an area on deck 6where we can all congregate to knit. If the weather is nice, we can do it outside on the ship’s deck!

As I said, I will iron out the details depending on the numbers and other variables. There is an event posting on Facebook where you can RSVP. This is the link – A Common Thread. If you are not a Facebook user, you can RSVP through the comments here, or by sending me an email at mrhugzzz@gmail.com. Like I said before, if you can’t make it physically to join us, you can do a couple of things. Try and get some of your friends together and do your own event. If that won’t work, knit a square and send it to me. I’ll make sure it’s included in the blanket that we make and I will also mention it on here. Please let everyone you know know about this so t will be a huge success! Keep checking here for updates!

Hugzzz 😎

Well, I have finally set a date for the first Common Thread outing.
