Ready for your tips? Okay – Look both ways before crossing the street! Oh,wait, you mean knitting tips! Alright, here we go …

Color your world – You can spruce up a plain sweater by using color. If you’ve never used color before you can make it simple by just changing the color a little past midway. You can use two colors or three, by using a complementary thin stripe and then a third color. You change colors just like you add a new ball of yarn. Here’s a link to a random color combination generator! Color Generator.

Don’t re-invent the wheel – Remember when you were in high school and the art teacher introduced you to the color wheel? Well, there’s no better tool for getting just the right color and combinations for that next project. In fact, there’s online color wheel generators to help make it even easier. Here’s a link to one you might enjoy … Color Wheel.

Look to Nature – There is no denying that Nature is a force to be reckoned with. Well, it’s also a source of great inspiration. All you have to do is open your eyes. Nature has found a way to put colors together in the most incredible combination – and every one of them stunning! Take a walk and write down what you see – just remember to stop and smell the flowers.

Have fun with paints – finger painting was a fun thing you probably haven’t done in ages, right? Well, it’s time you did it again. Try to find a kit that gives you a good variety of colors to work with and then try out the combinations you want to use to see how they’ll look.

Excel-erate your learning – Most spreadsheet programs allow you to create grids of any size and proportion you like. If you know your gauge, you can create a grid for your pattern. You can then use Excel’s (or whichever spreadsheet program you’re using) painting capabilities to paint your pattern with the colors you want. If you don’t like one, just click undo and try another. It’s a lot easier than frogging!

Calibrate your monitor – If you’re going to be using the last tip or your computer for choosing which colors to use, be sure and calibrate your monitor for the most accurate results possible. Consult your monitor’s user’s manual or do an online search to make sure you’re doing it properly.

Really light it up – A bonus tip this week, make sure you’re using real light. If you don’t have the pleasure of sunlight wherever or whenever you are, make sure you’re looking at the color under natural light light. There are lots of different types of light bulbs available now that produce a natural light for the best viewing of art, photos, and most importantly, yarn. The small added cost is definitely worth the investment. You’ll be amazed at what you see. And one additional thing, make sure you see your optician once a year and get your vision checked.

Okay, last thing – I promise. Although black and white aren’t technically colors (black is the absence of all color and white is the presence of all colors), they can be used to bring out other colors. Just don’t make them the base of all your projects!

Until next week.

Hugzzz 😎

Yup, It’s Tuesday already!
