How to tie a scarf and help A Hundred Ravens!

[Translate] As we’re getting into the coldest part of the winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, we find ourselves bundling up to protect against the cold that comes with it. What better way to do that than with a super scarf?! What’s a super scarf? Well, it’s one that’s a minimum of 100″ long and 10″ wide (no, I don’t know who decided on this). Luckily, I have such a pattern for you to make your very own! This scarf came about for 2 reasons. A few years back, A Hundred Ravens generously gifted me some yarn to “play […]

A new decade …

[Translate] It’s amazing how time passes, isn’t it? In just over a month and a half we will be ushering in a new decade!! Wow!! While there’s still lots to do in this one, it’s also necessary to start planning the beginning of the next one as well! At camp Hugzzz, things are buzzing! Not only do I have a major project launching on January 1st (you’ll see more about that in the next blog post), I’m already booking teaching gigs for next year. They’ll line up nicely with the content I need to get for the YouTube show […]

Close Knit Community

[Translate] Every now and then something happens that just puts a smile on my face! Yesterday, this very thing happened. I was coming home on transit from a day on a commercial for Wells Fargo when I noticed the Chinese lady behind me had a unique pouch for her Compass Card. That’s the card that we now use for our transit system to pay our fares. The color – a dark cranberry – caught my eye first. When I looked closer I realized it had been knitted. I tapped her on the shoulder and asked if she knitted it […]

Help is on the Way …

[Translate] On Saturday I had the great pleasure to teach a Cables class to 20 knitters at Apple Yarns in Bellingham, Washington. Over 3 hours I shared with them what I could about cables and such. Now I don’t know about other instructors, but when I teach people anything, I try and go beyond the simple technique and give them the tools they need to apply those skills in everyday projects. In this case, it was showing them how increasing their understanding of cables and how they behave might give them the confidence to adapt a pattern or perhaps […]

Ready, Set, Go!

[Translate] We’re off! This is the first day of the start of the VKAL – VIDEO Knit-A-Long. What makes this different from all the other Knit-A-Long’s out there? The VIDEO! This is a little like taking a class or workshop for a knitting technique – in this case Introduction to Double Knitting – but a little more than that as well. Along the way there will be tips and techniques that will not only help you get a great grasp of double knitting (knitting a two-sided  or reversible fabric), but will help you with all your regular knitting projects […]
