Knitting in the Shadows … Part III

[Translate] Wool you be my Valentine? Late you say? No, it’s not at all. This is a special Valentine’s going out to everyone – coupled or not. I hope you agree that “love” shouldn’t be celebrated on 1 day of the year – but the whole way through.  It’s also the wrap up of the Shadow Knitting posts I’ve been doing this week. If you’ve been doing the rings I’d like to suggest that you try and pattern the rest of it on your own using the chart that I gave you. It’s a nifty exercise and you should […]

Knitting in the Shadows … Part II

[Translate] If you missed the first part of Shadow or Illusion knitting, you’ll want to scroll down the page and read that post before jumping into this one, or you’ll be a little confused. In the last post we talked about what Illusion Knitting was and how you create the effect of stripes and a graphic in your knitting when viewed at different angles. Today we’re actually going to chart the graphic of the Olympic rings that we were looking at. In actuality, it’s already charted. What we need to do now is clean up the chart (fix and […]

Knitting in the Shadows …

[Translate] Shadow Knitting may be new to you, but I assure you it’s been around for awhile. I myself have done a few posts on it in the past, and there’s lots of information about it all over. There’s books (search Vivian Hoxboro), groups (check Ravelry), and videos (look on You Tube). This post is about breaking it down a bit and hopefully giving you the courage to try it yourself. It’s an extremely simple thing to do once you make a chart as it’s only knits and purls. It can be done in 1 or 2 colors (or […]

Heart matters …

[Translate] If you’ve gotten your calendar, you’ll see a very interesting scarf in September. It’s a shadow knit scarf and from the angles it was shot at you should be able to make out the shape of a heart quite easily. If you could factor in for the distortion, it would be an exact replica of the logo for HEART-ART, Lara West’s company and website. Lara was even thoughtful enough to paint her toenails pink for the shoot. If you remember a post a little while back, you’ll have an idea of how we get the image of the […]

Knitting in the Shadows …

[Translate] Illusion Knitting. Shadow Knitting. Hocus Pocus? Nope. It’s a way of knitting that creates a pattern in your work that seems to be there one minute and gone the next. If you’ve never seen it before, read on, and/or start googling. There are some fantastic examples of what you can do with shadow knitting. It’s achieved by alternating between purl and knit stitches in your work. Yeah, I know, that’s how all knitting is. True, but this particular technique uses rows of knit stitches to create ridges, and then you alternate your stitches in the in-between rows to […]
