New Experiences …

– Are you sure you want to do this?– As sure as I’ll ever be. I’ve done a bit of research and while it’s a new technique for me I’m quite familiar with the basic concept.– So you have experience then?– *blush* Yes, some. I’ve done it a few times but there are so many ways to do it it seems different every time. – Yes, it can be. Are you ready to get started?– Yes, but please be gentle. It’s been a while and as I said, I’ve never done it like this before. – You’re in good […]

Getting started …

Okay, thanks for joining me on this KAL. If you’ve never made a pair of socks before, don’t worry, it’s a snap. I do recommend that you look at the links in the last post though and just have a quick read through. We’ll have a bit of a refresher with some parts of it during this KAL. You’ll quickly realize that they’re not as difficult as they first appear. Once you understand the anatomy of the sock, you’ll be that much more comfortable with trying this from scratch. Yes, I said from scratch. You see, we’re not following […]

Ready, Set, CAST ON!

All right then, hopefully by now you’ve decided on your yarn of choice for the knit along. Hopefully you’ve also done a swatch and have the gauge and know what needles you’re going to be using. Now it’s just a matter of knitting yourself a beautiful new fitted top. Double Double Knitting Knitting …

No, you’re not seeing double – not really. And no, Double Knitting doesn’t mean you have to knit the same thing twice – well, not really. You are knitting two pieces of fabric at the same time to create one reversible piece of fabric. Clear as mud, right? Although technically you could use any arbitrary number of yarns and colors, Double Knitting is usually done with two colors and usually the same yarn (although there is no reason you can’t change the yarn to give you more textural alternatives). There are several ways of creating Double Knitting. The two […]

Lace it up …

Okay, it’s time for our last swatch, but before we do that, it’s also time for some changes. By now you’ve gotten used to putting holes (YO’s) in your work and you’re worked a single left slanting and right slanting decrease as well as a double decrease. You don’t know everything about lace knitting yet, but you’re well on your way. There is more to learn but we’ll tackle it as we get to it. In the meantime we need to discuss yarn and casting on. Let’s start with yarn. We’ve been using DK weight yarn for our samples […]
