Round and round we go …

My apologies to everyone who tried to view this in the last few days. My site was down due to an upgrade of the hard drives by my ISP, but unfortunately, the hard drive with my website on it had some issues and needed a recovery from backup files. As a result, my website along with some others were unavailable all weekend. The good news is I’m back! Yeah! So now it’s time to March into spring … sorry, I had to! Even though I’ll be working on an unspringlike project. Remember the sweater that we started designing about […]

Knitting Interrupted …

Hiya … so if you’ve been reading my blog regularly, thank you, and I owe you an apology. I haven’t posted much this summer and I’m sorry. When I look back, there’s no real reason for it, and I’m not going to try and come up with one either. In truth, I have been a little scattered. Now I’m used to that in my knitting life, but not everywhere else. All I can do is persevere and try and not make it happen again. In order to do this, I’ll try and make my posts more regular – like […]

Let’s get started …

Okay, so I hope you’ve picked out a yarn and have done a swatch. You need to know your gauge (stitches and rows per inch), as I’ll explain how to customize this to your measurements along the way. Oh yeah, you’ll need the measurements for the person you’re making this for. So before we start, I should show you the original top and the one we’re going to make. Here’s a picture of the original one – yeah, it’s a good thing I’m a better knitter than sketch artist. Believe it or not, I can draw comic book characters […]

Texture of the week – Stocking Stitch

Before I get into the texture of the week for this week, I’d like to revisit the texture from last week – the garter stitch. In last week’s post I mentioned some of the advantages of the garter stitch and forgot to mention one of the most important ones. The garter stitch creates a flat fabric. This is an important feature when designing and invaluable when making articles such as scarves. In fact, I have a picture of a scarf that I have made horizontally instead of vertically entirely in garter stitch. By doing it this way I was […]

Continuing in Color …

I hope everyone that celebrates it had a great Halloween. Remember not to eat all your candy all at once! Here in Hugzzzland, we’re continuing our little foray into color. We’ve looked at a few different ways to incorporate color into our knitting, and have a few more to go. So far, all the ways we’ve looked at involve different techniques. Today, we’re going to look at the easiest way possible – I know I said stripes was the easiest, but this way slipped my mind until just now. I am of course, talking about yarn! Yarn has evolved […]
