Elementary Red – and Next Up!

Well, it appears that the response to Elementary has been much higher than I thought it would have been. Not only are there groups in Ravelry dedicated to the show and the fashion in it, there are all kinds of articles being written about the wardrobe designer of the show – Rebecca Hofherr. While Rebecca concedes that she gets most of the fashion items from regular stores, I think she has an incredible eye and talent to be able to put the individual pieces together as well as she does. She also admits to having Lucy Liu’s input on […]

Ready, Set, … KNIT!

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I don’t talk politics – usually! Well, unfortunately something has been brought up that I feel I need to address, and also urge you as a knitter to speak out about as well. This is a summer Olympics year, and as such, Ravelry is holding their third knitting Olympics. This one is bigger and has quite a few more events than the first one a while back. Unfortunately, the United States Olympic Committee feels that the Ravelympics are a “denigrating” tribute to “true athletes”. Here […]

YINK – Yarn I’ll Never Knit

I was in one of the forums I belong to on Ravelry today and I saw this term – YINKs – Yarn I’ll Never Knit. My first thought was what a great term, which was quickly followed by have I got a lot of yinks! This gave me a great idea for what to do with my yinks. I’m going to put up a new gallery on this site that’s called yinks and it will have quite a bit of my yinks in there. Now truthfully, I won’t just dump all my acrylics in there (I have to keep […]

Celtic Motif by Devorgilla

Still knotted up … in a good way.

Okay, I never went anywhere, yet, but with packing to move, the Star Trek convention, my 2 weekly knitting groups, AND the World Cup, it’s been a very busy week.  Somewhere in there I managed to design a shrug pattern using the Barrington Braid (and others) as well and am now knitting that. I will have pictures and pattern information as soon as I finish it and have Anne do a test knit for me. I think you will like it though as there will also be a Bolero option and both pattern will be included in the one. […]

Braided Edgings …

Any good piece of knitted fabric has to have a good edge. Whether it be knitted or crocheted, it the edge of the piece doesn’t look good, it doesn’t matter how good the main work is. Now that you know how to make a cabled braid any size you want (if you got the ebook that is), you might want to take a look at what to do on the outside  of one of the larger braids. Actually, it doesn’t even have to be one of the larger ones. If you are only making a scarf, say, you might […]
