Tuesday’s Tips – All About Lace…

Well, seeing as we’re almost ready to delve into a Lace project, I thought I would dedicate this week’s tips to Lace. There are a few more than usual, but some of them may be repeats from previous weeks. Sorry if you’ve read them before, but I hope those that haven’t appreciate it. You might want to go back through the archives as well just to see what you’ve missed. Okay, here we go … Teach and old knitter – a few more cast ons. Lace knitting requires a really stretchy cast on and off. If you’ve only been […]

Tuesday’s tips and Free Hugzzz!

Before I get into Tuesday’s tips, I would like to thank everybody who helped out with the Hugzzz campaign on Sunday. It was truly awesome here in Vancouver. If you did one in your city, please send in some photos or just a brief note as to how it went. Ours started out with 2 people and had two others join in giving hugzzz. Surprisingly, I would say that 40% of the hugzzz were from men! It was such a success in fact that I will do one every month, just because. What did you do for Christmas in […]

The Better Buttonhole …

If you’ve been knitting for any amount of time, you’ve probably had to do a button hole at some point. There are lots of ways to do them, but the most common is probably the 1 row buttonhole. As we discussed in the post a few days ago, it’s hard to get a buttonhole that is sturdy enough and still […]

Getting a leg up …

Hi everybody. I would like to wish all my friends and followers in the United States (and even the ones that aren’t yet) a happy Memorial Day. I hope the sun shines on you wherever you are. Well, hopefully by now you have made a swatch or two for your socks, and have picked a set of needles you like, the pattern you’re going to do the sock in (ribbed or stocking stitch), and the method you’re going to use to knit in the round. Let’s quickly review our choices. You can use DP’s – double pointed needles come […]

Which foot first?

Well, I hope you’re ready to go with the socks, because I am! Let’s do a check before we go though, so that we don’t forget anything. This is a sock knitting tutorial or KAL, and because of that, you don’t have to specifically have sock yarn, but it will be nicer if you do so that at the end you can actually wear the socks you make. I wouldn’t recommend you break the bank on the yarn for this first pair, but once you get used to making socks, you’ll probably want to invest a few more dollars […]
