The Better Buttonhole …

If you’ve been knitting for any amount of time, you’ve probably had to do a button hole at some point. There are lots of ways to do them, but the most common is probably the 1 row buttonhole. You’ve probably had to make do with the regular method of casting off the number of stitches in the button hole, finish your row, then cast them back on when you get back to it in the next row. As we discussed in the post a few days ago, it’s hard to get a buttonhole that is sturdy enough and still […]

Just Button it!

Finding the perfect button for a particular garment can sometimes be a daunting task, which is why some people find the button first, then find the yarn to match it. Finding the perfect buttonhole, until now, has also been a daunting task. I know of a really good one when working on a knitting machine, but by hand, I have often used the cast off, cast on method for doing the holes. Whenever I was lucky enough, I would do a YO, then add an improvised twist to keep the hole a little tighter. This opportunity doesn’t present itself […]

Which foot first?

Well, I hope you’re ready to go with the socks, because I am! Let’s do a check before we go though, so that we don’t forget anything. This is a sock knitting tutorial or KAL, and because of that, you don’t have to specifically have sock yarn, but it will be nicer if you do so that at the end you can actually wear the socks you make. I wouldn’t recommend you break the bank on the yarn for this first pair, but once you get used to making socks, you’ll probably want to invest a few more dollars […]

The “C” Word … and 2 more clues

Sorry – I’m not talking commitment! I don’t have a problem with commitment, just saying, but that’s not what we’re talking about today. This is a knitting blog after all! The “C” word we’re talking about is “crochet”. Now before all you knitters hit your back button on your browsers, stick around for a little bit and read a paragraph or two. For some strange reason, a large group of knitters seem to think that crochet is a bad word. It’s like there’s a competition between knitting and crocheting and you can only do one or the other. Knitters, […]

What have I Done??

Well it seems that the craze going around the knitting blogs right now is this survey of what you have/want to/ and will do in the past/present/future. Basically its a long list of things related to knitting. The idea is that you are to copy it and bold the items you’ve done, italicize the ones you plan to do, and leave the rest normal type (the ones you don’t plan on doing). Normally I’m not one for this kind of thing but I thought this would be kind of fun. Its also interesting to see what other people are […]
