Well, the Paralympic torch was lit in Vancouver last night, and that also signaled the beginning of round 2 of the knitting Olympics. For those of you who are new to this or don’t know about the knitting Olympics, here’s the basic jist of it. At the last Winter Olympic games, Yarn harlot, a well known knitting blogger, started the knitting Olympics. In order to participate, all you had to do was cast on a project that was a personal challenge to you – whether it be a scarf or fair aisle socks – when the Olympic flame was ignited during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics! The goal was to complete the project before the same torch was extinguished at the end of the games during the closing ceremonies. This year I put a little twist on it as I was uncertain if there was going to be a knitting Olympics again. Since there are the Paralympics as well, I said that you had from the beginning of the first Olympics to the end of the Paralympics to complete your project. For those that finished during the first Olympics, they would be able to cast on another project at the start of the Paralympics. If you didn’t finish your original project during the first Olympics, you could take a break, and resume it during the Paralympics.
I was also going to give out a special surprise to anyone who left a comment saying what they were doing for the knitting Olympics and then showed proof after, verifying that they completed the project. To date, no one has taken me up on that offer, but it’s not too late. Since the Paralympics are already started though, you’ll have to hurry. As for myself, I’m working on my Jamaican Gold sweater. I have to say I’m glad that i had the second set of games to work on it as I haven’t done very much at all. Yes, I had to dye the yarn, let it dry, and then wind the colors to make a swatch before I could start designing it, but I was still anticipating finishing it already. I think it was a case of biting off more than i can chew. But I am determined to get it done. I’m hoping to not be as distracted as I was the first time around as well. I need to get a few days of solid knitting in there so I’ll be watching most of the events from the comfort of my living room – where I can knit as well. I did watch a lot of the curling at home the first time around, but the games were so tense (Cheryl Bernard waited to the last end to draw for a win in soooo many games) that I was surprised how little knitting I got done. I plan to do a better job this time – starting right now.
Just in case anybody from MWK (Men Who Knit – another online knitting group I belong to) was looking for the braid pattern I promised to have up yesterday, I will be posting it tomorrow. I’m sorry, I got busier than I thought I would be and didn’t have time to post it. It will be the subject of the post tomorrow however and the pattern instructions will be there as well.
Hugzzz 😎
