World Cup of Knitting!

For the next 31 days, almost the entire world will be focused on South Africa for the FIFA World Cup of Football (soccer for stubborn North Americans). As an homage to the most popular sport in the world, I am launching a World Cup of Knitting (or Crocheting). Seeing as this post will go up just before/after the first match kicks off, you’re probably just in time to get going on it. It will be much like the Knitting Olympics, but with a small twist. In the kitting Olympics you simply had to knit something that was a personal challenge to you.Well, it will be the same here, but the twist is that whatever you make will have to have the colors of the country you are supporting. If you’re not supporting a particular country, or heaven forbid, are not watching the games (???), simply pick one with colors that you like. Then, over the next month, plan and knit something with the colors from the flag of the country you picked. Working with colors may be all the challenge you need. If so, you might want to check out the book I reviewed a while back in this post – A Library at Hand – for some help. The book is The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques by Margaret Radcliffe. I will try and do another post on color work very soon as well.

To make this really cool, along with mention for your very own Knitting World Cup trophy, there will be a special something for anybody that leaves a comment telling of their intention to participate, manages to finish an item, and has their team win the World Cup! If nobody fits that criteria, we will go to the semi finals, and/or the quarter finals to pick a winner. I’m not sure what the prize will be (there may be more than 1 winner), but it will be good! Here is a picture of all the participating countries and their flags.

The countries and their flags - locations.

As you can see, there are some countries with the same colors in their flags. This why you need to state what country you are supporting in a comment – before the end of the first week of competition. If you want more information on the countries participating and their football legacies, go to the FIFA homepage at FIFA.com. I think I am going to cheer on Brazil – well, I’ll cheer them all on but I will do something in Brazil’s colors for this event. Good luck everybody!

Oh, the Friday funnies will return next week at their regularly scheduled time (sorry Cathy 😉 ), but I will give you one joke to keep you until then …

Question:  Why don’t crows spend all their time Knitting?
Answer:    Because they’re too busy crowcheting!

Hugzzz 😎
