Come for the knitting, stay for the Pi …

[Translate] Yeah, I had to do it! I mean, it’s not just a regular Pi day today – it’s a Super Pi day! The date is 3.14.15 … Pi to 4 digits! This won’t happen again for another 100 years!! If you’re old enough to be reading this, you probably won’t be around for the next installation – unless of course there’s some great innovations in the medical field by then! So what does Pi have to do with knitting, you ask? Well, it seems this mathematical constant (I won’t go into the history as I’m sure you’ve been […]

Help is on the Way …

[Translate] On Saturday I had the great pleasure to teach a Cables class to 20 knitters at Apple Yarns in Bellingham, Washington. Over 3 hours I shared with them what I could about cables and such. Now I don’t know about other instructors, but when I teach people anything, I try and go beyond the simple technique and give them the tools they need to apply those skills in everyday projects. In this case, it was showing them how increasing their understanding of cables and how they behave might give them the confidence to adapt a pattern or perhaps […]

Be a better blocker …

[Translate] Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of talk in the social media knitting groups regarding blocking. Ironic, seeing as I’ve been preparing a post about this very thing. When it comes to blocking, there seems to be quite a few opinions, ranging from people who never block their work, to people who only block lace work, to people who block everything and people somewhere in between. Now I’m not going to sit here and preach to you and tell you that you should block your work, but my preference is to block everything! There was a time when […]

Time to give thanks …

[Translate] This isn’t my usual kind of post here at ITBTK. Over the past weekend, I attended Stitches East in Hartford, CT. It was a great experience, and I’m going to do a few posts to tell you about some of the really amazing vendors I saw there and new friends I made. Before all that though, I thought I’d entertain you with the adventure I had in getting there and back to have this experience in the first place. Since I don’t have an unlimited source of funds for these conventions, I thought I’d save a few dollars […]

Fall into color …

[Translate] If you live in the Northern Hemisphere and you step outside, you can smell it in the air. Even with the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having, fall is in the air! If you like knitting, it’s probably the best season of them all. Unlike winter, you can wear and showcase your knitted items without having to bundle them under a heavy coat or boots. And the great thing about the fall when it comes to knitting is that it inspires  … COLOR! Color is probably the easiest way to liven up your knitting and turn that simple […]
